Taff Buggy Dragon Rnd 3
24th April 2004

Gumy on top again

With our attendance at this race low with other commitments and injury, it was down to Phil Mowatt and Paul May to represent the teams interests.

Taff is a short course which is littered with rocks and a few jumps, the best way to describe it is....well a baby Dragon course........it has everything just in small amounts.

You start off the line and you are faced with a couple of tight turns and then straight into the stepdown, this is only about 10' but the landing can be tight and tricky as I found out last week when I fracturing my left leg, hence the reason I was sidelined for this race.

Further down the bank your faced with an awkward double into a left berm, plenty of time to gain if you get this right, and plenty to loose if it all goes a bit "Pete Tongue". Phil nailed it perfectly first time leaving the tyres scrabbling for grip through the berm as he banked it over, it's only a matter of time before Phil is back up the top as the ability is definately there. The rest of the course is really just about carrying speed and taking clean lines. Taff always provides tight racing and this race was no exception, a few seconds split the top of the field from the back so any mistake would cost you badly.

The weather was well bahaved and this created a great atmosphere in the pits, Paul seemed prettty cool and confident and you just knew he was going to produce a result, as usual, he didn't dissapoint.

Phil Mowatt struggled for a completely clean run but still managed a 1:48 placing him 22nd in the seniors, however, the consistent smoothness of Paul May meant a podium was a racing cirt, Gummy once again took the gold and the top spot on the podium with a time of 1:41......where oh where will all that silverwear go!

That's at least one team podium for every race attended so far this year.....well done boys!
